Duck Dash

Daryl's rotary club holds a "Duck Dash" every year--they raffle off ducks and then dump the lot in the river and the first few dozen ducks to cross the finish line win prizes for their owners. Daryl actually sold the winning ticket for the grand prize finisher this year--$2,500. Too bad he didn't also buy said ticket!! Oh well! It is an all day event at our local Tumwater Falls Park with games, food, and other fun for families to do. Daryl had to emcee the event in the morning and then Emily and I went to join him and help out. Ally was gone with a friend for the day and G & G took Trevor to a birthday party and kept Luke too. All but Ally met up with us later.

Emily posing with the main Duck!

Emily trying her hand at fishing. Every kid got to catch and keep a trout (I think they could each have three but we didn't want to be greedy). I think the fish was immediately on her hook!

Here's a helper holding the fish (in the foreground).

Trevor fishing (across the pool) with Grandpa. We had a few tasty trout the next day! Yum!

A mass of yellow ducks racing down the river!

Some take a direct route to the finish line while others get caught in the current along the shore or behind rocks.

After enough ducks cross the finish line all the "stuck" ducks get rescued and recycled. The rotary club members net the ducks and are dumping them on the deck. Daryl is just out of frame doing the same thing. Trevor and Emily were excited to help this year and they bagged up hundreds of washed up ducks! Good job guys!
